DAY 58 of #100daysofJesus - Creativity

DAY 58 of #100daysofJesus

Jesus is the Creator.

John taught that "all things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life."

Paul taught that God "created all things by Jesus Christ."

Helaman taught that Jesus Christ was "the Creator of all things from the beginning."

Creativity and the act of creation are attributes of Jesus. As His disciples, seeking to become like Him, we should also make time for creativity. Participation in the creative process helps to draw us to Him and to become more like Him.

Admittedly, for recovering perfectionists like me (and many others) who feel like we don't have a creative bone in our bodies, this can be tough! But it is important for us to be willing to step outside of our comfort zones to try new things.

There is so much fulfillment and satisfaction that comes from the creative process. I believe we were all born creative, but some of us have suppressed it over the years for various reasons. Each of my kids naturally enjoys coloring, drawing, creating - they were born that way!

It also struck me recently while studying the work of Brene Brown that Creativity is one of her 10 Guideposts for Wholehearted Living. Her research found that people who engage in creative outlets are happier and more "wholehearted" in their approach to life.

I don't think it coincidence at all that science agrees with religion on the importance of creativity.

If you're already doing creative things, keep it up! If not so much, I encourage you to give it a try. I'm committed to doing the same by stepping out of my own comfort zone.

(John 1:3-4, Ephesians 3:9, Helaman 14:12)
