DAY 60 of #100daysofJesus
While Jesus was yet in the womb, it's clear that there was great anticipation among those who knew the true identity of this soon-to-born baby.
Luke 1 is full of examples of this anticipation. When Mary arrived at her pregnant cousin Elizabeth's house, the words spoken by Elizabeth as she was "filled with the Holy Ghost" were:
"Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb...For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy."
Mary was also able to prophesy: "My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior. For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. He hath holpen [helped] his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy..."
After Elizabeth and Zacharias' son, John, was born, and after Zacharias' tongue was miraculously loosed (he had been struck dumb previously), He began to prophesy about Jesus:
"Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people, and hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David."
These are just a few snippets of the words that these three prophesied. I'd encourage you to review this chapter (Luke 1) and put yourself in their shoes. What great and joyful anticipation knowing that the Messiah was about to be born into the world!
Those same feelings of joy, hope, and redemption can also be felt in abundance this time of year as we sing Christmas songs, enjoy decorations, give to and serve others, and reflect more on our Savior's birth. I love this time of year!
