DAY 34 of #100daysofJesus
Jesus is the Chief Cornerstone of the Church of Jesus Christ.
Paul wrote to the Ephesians, describing the unity and organization of Jesus' church. He explained that the Church should be "built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone."
Similarly, Jesus taught and prophesied that he would be the Cornerstone prophesied of by Isaiah and others: "Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes?"
What's the importance of a cornerstone?
In the construction of a stone building, the cornerstone is the first stone placed upon the foundation. Jesus was also a "first" - the firstborn of the Father and the first to be resurrected and overcome death.
As you can imagine, the cornerstone also has to carry a lot of the weight from the building. Just think of the burdens Jesus has carried for you and me! He bore the weight of all mankind's sins.
The cornerstone defines the angles for the walls on either side, so it must be a straight and steady guide. Jesus is our guide and has shown us the way to eternal life. He is the light of the world, illuminating our steps along the straight and narrow path. We truly can (and must) align our lives to Him.
Because Jesus is the Cornerstone, we can rely on Him. He is a solid Rock upon which we can build our own foundations. Just as we consider Him to be the Cornerstone of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he must also become the Cornerstone of our individual lives.
